We have arrived!

After a couple of long flights, layover in Tokyo, and bad airline food, we have arrived in China!  I now remember why I always try to get direct flights.  We landed late at night Friday and had a little bit of a surprise when our greeter wasn't at the customs exit waiting for us.  Normally, it wouldn't been a big deal but after being up for almost 24 hours, we were ready for some sleep.  After some calls, we got things sorted out.  Apparently, our flight wasn't posted as having arrived.  Go figure.

Got some sleep (if you call waking up every hour sleep) and met the other families also picking up their kids this time around.  All the other families already have at least one child, with a number of them adopting one from China previously.

We did the tourist thing today and saw some sights (Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, a silk factory, and acrobatic show).  It's been over ten years since I've last visited here on vacation.  Boy, things have changed!  If you ignore the pollution and Chinese signs, you'd think you were in New York or Paris.   Gone are the little old buildings and bicycles.  There's tons of traffic and tall buildings.  Granted we're from the Bay Area and there's a good number of people with their nice cars, it was somewhat strange to see dealerships for Ferrari, Porsche, Mercedes, and Buggati all on the same block!

It almost feels like we're on a vacation except for the knowledge that by tomorrow we'll have a kid in our care...  Clock is ticking down!

I'll try to post some pictures when I figure out how to use this thing.  Finally got the permissions set right, I hope.  Well, if you're reading this then it must be fixed!  Sorry to those of you that got the Google invitation only screen.
